How I Made $1,250 On Something That Didn’t Exist
A few weeks ago, a girl DM’d me on my VA for a day Instagram. She said, “I’d love to know more about the behind the scenes of your business, I’ve been a virtual assistant for over a year and don’t have nearly has many clients as you. Would you ever consider starting a mentorship program?”
I was like… Hmph.
On the one hand, I feel entirely unqualified because I’ve only had my virtual assistant business since July. On the other hand, I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 19 and I definitely know that the fact that I book 3 weeks in advance and am constantly turning down VA work is a good indicator of my businesses success.
So I thought, What the hell, I’ll tell her I have a program and if she goes for it, I’ll do it. And if she doesn’t, no worries because, well… It doesn’t exist!
So I tell her, “Yea, it’s super low key and I only offer it when someone else asks like this haha, it’s a 4 week program and for a one time payment for $175 or two payments of $100 each. You receive two 30-minute 1:1 phone calls with me to get clear on your income goals, offerings, and strategy as a VA and you will have access to a few of my resources, such as sample email templates, the Trello board I use to organize my projects, how to find clients, etc.”
You guys, I made. this. up.
I’m not being dramatic, I legit made it up on the spot. Everything. From the price to the non-existent resources to the 30 minute calls, I made up ALL of this.
And you know what she said?
“Great, sign me up!”
Then I got to work.
Listen to the podcast episode on the player above to hear step by step how I built a mentorship program from scratch AFTER I sold it to the original gal who asked, plus 6 others.
But before I go, let me hone in on the lesson here. Friends, if you have an idea for a project, course, guide, business, service, product, whatever--you can actually sell it before it exists.
Create something from DEMAND and you’ll make money before it exists. Don’t create something you THINK there will be demand for and potentially waste your time. Test the waters, see if people bite, and release it incrementally like I did.
>>You’re doing your audience a disservice by not serving them what they want. I truly believe that.<<
Whether you have 10 followers or 10,000 followers, they follow you because you are giving them value. Serve them with what they WANT and you too could make over a thousand dollars in just a few days on something that doesn’t exist.
I’m living proof!
